THE ASSOCIATE stands out as a spacious cafe and casual eatery nestled inside a Masonic high rise on Goulburn Street, right in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. With plenty of natural light flooding the large indoor seating area, it’s a spot that balances the buzz of the city with a surprisingly open, airy feel. This is a place where many locals grab a quick coffee or breakfast on the way to work, but there’s also enough room to settle in if you have some time to spare.

What sets it apart is the sandwich selection, which leans into unique, satisfying options not often found at typical city cafes — like the popular eggplant and pumpkin sandwiches or a chicken and avocado wrap. These fare well for those looking to skip the usual cafe fare without sacrificing flavor or pace. The menu also includes a solid range of breakfast items such as pancakes, a breakfast burger, and a chicken and mushroom pie served with fries, catering to varying morning cravings.

The coffee here matches the food’s straightforward, no-fuss attitude: consistently good and well-liked by regulars. Despite the weekday morning rush, service moves quickly, making it an efficient stop for commuters. The friendly staff contribute to the easygoing atmosphere, which still manages to feel inviting despite the steady flow of takeaway traffic.

Visiting during the morning gives a clear view of the street activity through the cafe’s glass enclosure, connecting you to the downtown rhythm while enjoying a well-made brew or a flavorful breakfast. It suits anyone looking for a solid meal and coffee combo with a relaxed, professional vibe — whether you're grabbing a quick bite before work or lingering over lunch in a roomy setting.

Great place for a sandwich and a coffee. The range of sandwiches is unlike any other place I have been and they are reasonably priced. My go-to is their pumpkin sandwich. Lots of open space and natural light. Most people takeaway but it’s nice to eat in and have a moment.

Great cafe with large indoor seating area, good breakfast options and nice coffee. Inside a Masonic high rise building with enclosed glass to watch the busy street.

I have visited this place first time. My friend and I walked into this coffee shop as it was on our way to the Central Station. Itwas spacious and clean. I liked the coffee and a cake. However, I had to eat my dessert using a main dish folk. It was a little bit unusual. Overall, I liked the place.
